Wising Up for Winter ~ Water Season
Dec 21, 2025
Now that we have entered the Season of Winter and the Element of Water, I want to share some insight on this season. Winter is a cold and contractive time, but with the help of the “Energetic Water” Face or Body Session, along with the use of Essential Oils, You can bring balance back into this long dark season. After the excess of the Holiday Seasons; Thanksgiving and Christmas, we relish a down time to cleanse and support the kidneys. Nourish and nurture the kidneys this winter season.

Considered the “Root of Life'” the Kidney Meridian houses the essence of the DNA from our parents at conception. Named for the Kidneys, it also includes the “Adrenals,” which physically sit on top of the Kidneys. The adrenals secrete a wide variety of essential hormones that regulate metabolism, support immunity, and control sexual fertility and potency. If that isn’t enough, the energy of the kidney controls the growth and development of bone and marrow, which is considered by the Chinese also to include the brain and the spinal cord.
The Bladder Meridian, “Minister of the Reservoir'” – it’s ability to excrete waste from the body, associated with the autonomic nervous system, where stress and tension play a key part in bladder chi dysfunction.
Because of it’s association with Winter Time, there is a feeling of cold with the essence of Kidney yang weakness. One might experience outer extreme cold in the hands and feet, or an internal cold in the core of the body, frequent urination and even lower joint soreness. Warming essential oils, massaged into the skin, a hot bath – can alleviate the inner chill and the aches. Some of these oils include: Cinnamon, ginger, black pepper, peppermint, melaleuca, or rosemary.
When Kidney Yin energy become deficient or weak, it may create blurred vision, poor memory, weakness of the spine – bone marrow/brain association, lack of decision-making, essential oils to stimulate mental acuity and fatigue are basil, peppermint, rosemary, lemon and lemongrass. Utilize theses oils in Meditation and in sniffed can snap the mind into alertness.
The control of Sexual function, when deficient in the Kidneys, can manifest in lack of sexual vitality, decline of sexual vigor, infertility, impotence, premature ejaculation and other libido related disorders. A few of my favorite Essential Oils, used as an Aphrodisiac, are:
Jasmine flower oil is heady and intense in smell, but oh, what joys and romance it can bring!! A true “feel good” oil with therapeutic effects on both the emotional and physical planes. Relax, release the inhibitions and enjoy life.
Rose is one of the most expensive and prized essential oils. Opening the heart chakra to heighten the sense of inner peace and beauty. Rose releases grief and sorrow, along with uplifting the spirits. A truly romantic, sensual oil for an atmosphere of love.
Ylang-Ylang, my personal favorite, – so good they named it twice!! This heavenly oil is deliciously sensual and exotic. Think sultry nights on a faraway beach or island, the ocean crashing in, heightening the sense of excitement and eroticism. Imagine the soft petals of the flower caressing your skin. Let go and allow pleasure in!
Sandalwood, having more of a masculine scent – used in mediation and rituals, also has a place in the “feel good” line up. This oil brings you to a deeper understanding of self and a deeper trust of your feelings an responses. Grounding and self-actualization encourage intimacy and sharing with this spicy oil.
Patchouli – AH, the 60’s flower Power, free love and no inhibitions. Patchouli has that kind of freeing quality about it and is probably the most narcotic oils available. Stimulating a hormone reaction and can create a fantasy world where sexual pleasure is intense and all the senses are acutely turned on. Because of the limbic response, people either love this or or can’t stand the smell; no one is ambivalent with Patchouli.
There is much more that I would like to share with you about the winter season and the water element – but I am going to hold off until next time. Order Your Essential Oils Here
Winter energy is about hydration and toning which are important because of the circulation of water that is the energy focus of this season. Water is what gives us our reserves and our resources, something that every living thing relies on in the winter months. Dehydration, edema, lack of skin tone, water retention, even black circles and puffy eyes are all common in the winter months. This is the season of Water, so keeping the kidneys and urinary system healthy are very important to prevent the development of urinary tract infections or a weakening of the bladder. During the snowy period, Kangen ionized water becomes essential for drinking, cleansing and bathing. You should be drinking an additional pint of water than you normally would during this crucial hydration time. This is the time that prepares us for the next season. We even recommend spraying 2.5 pH Kangen Water in the nose, mouth and throat to prevent the typical winter strep infection.
